Shoe Styles

Going from class to class, walking long distances on UK's campus is unavoidable. While choosing a shoe to wear, most students depend on comfort while also wanting style. All over campus, you can find shoes ranging from Rainbow flip flops, to casual Sperry Top-Sider's, and to the classic Toms.

Flip Flop sandals will always be an essential shoe on campus. A majority of students choose Rainbow's because of the comfort and long-lasting quality. Rainbow sandals come in a variety of styles and colors, ranging from classic brown and black to pink, yellow and white.

Whether its a girl or guy, Sperry Top-Sider's are a stylish trend that can be casual or be made dressy. These made-to-be boat shoes have become a popular trend all over campus. As seen in the picture, Sperry's are a favored shoe among fraternity guys. Sperry Top-Siders are a great example of a comfortable yet fashionable shoe.

Another shoe that is becoming extremely popular on campus are Toms. These easy to slip on comfortable shoes come in many colors and styles. Toms are a great shoe to wear any day while walking to and from class. There are so many shoe trends on campus that one can see just by walking around UK. Waking long distances to class, students want comfort, but also style. Rainbow's, Sperry's and Toms are a few favored shoe trends on UK's campus.

Trends Among Guys

Walking around campus there are many trendy guys to spot.  One look that has caught my eye is the “frat look”.  Greek is such a huge deal around campus and in the fraternity world it is important to look your best and dress to impress.  This look is I’ve seen on many pledges.  Zach is looking very put together in his khaki pants and collared shirt and tie.  Many pledges have to wear a button up shirt or polo with khaki pants.  Accessories such as nice dress shoes, belts and ties are a must.  Zach said the fraternities want their pledges to look nice and wear an outfit that makes them look professional.

Spirit wear is seen on almost every guy on campus whether it is a Kentucky shirt or some other team, a guy is seen showing their spirit somewhere.  Athletic gear is a good and comfortable look and the perfect outfit to wear.  In the picture, Ethan and Brooks are sporting a more causal and comfortable look seen on many guys around campus.  Ethan is wearing a Reds baseball hoodie and Brooks is sporting a UK hoodie.  Basketball shorts are also a comfortable look and a fast way to get dressed and go to class. Both guys say being comfortable is the main thing they think about when getting dressed in the morning.

You can see many trends as you walk to class; some casual, some dressy, and some in between.  No matter where you go you can find many styles because the University of Kentucky is very diverse and everyone has their own unique style.

Backpack Trends Around Campus

While walking around UK’s vast campus, one can see that there is definitely not a shortage of stylish backpacks. With styles ranging from the always classic L.L. Bean backpack, to designer tote bags, students at UK do not fall short when it comes to style and flair.
Backpacks are always an obvious choice when looking for a stylish way to carry all types of school gear. The classic L.L. Bean monogrammed backpack will always be a staple on college campuses, and especially UK. Sportier options from The North Face, Under Armor, and the UK Nike backpack are definitely growing in popularity. For girls who like to add a touch of pattern and a pop of color; quilted, cotton Vera Bradley backpacks are incredibly popular. As far as more “fashion forward” options go, upscale designer backpacks from brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci have been spotted on the back’s of some of UK’s most fashion conscious students.

For those who prefer messenger bags or even tote bags to haul around their text books and pencils, candy colored Vera Bradley print messenger bags, as well as, Longchamp totes in an array of colors are a dime a dozen around campus. Sorority girls love to show off their Greek letters by carrying cotton tote bags embroidered with the letters of their sorority. Bags with monogrammed names or initials can also be seen on the shoulders of many UK students. Designer messenger bags and totes from brands like Coach, Louis Vuitton, and Tory Burch are also popular with those who want to add a special chicness to their hike around UK’s campus.
Backpack trends definitely do not end simply with the types of bags that students are carrying. Buttons and pins are an extremely popular way to accessorize school bags, and support different organizations and clubs at the University of Kentucky. Ranging from sorority pins saying “DZ Loves Our Cats” to a simple green button supporting the Violence Intervention and Prevention Center, pins in all shapes and sizes with any slogan can be found all around campus.

Backpacks, messenger bags, and totes are the ultimate way to show off personal style when strolling around campus in the rain or shine. No matter what UK students choose to carry their gear in, one thing is certain: UK students are ALWAYS stylish and chic.

Trends Around Campus

School is back in full swing and the trends on campus are becoming apparent. Here at UK, Greek life is popular, and so is their spirit wear. You wont be able to go to class with out seeing a girl like Kaitlyn Rexroat, supporting her sorority. Kaitlyn is still casual which is perfect for a day of running around. Girls everywhere are being spotted with sorority shirts, sweatshirts and totes. Meanwhile the Greek boys can always be seen sporting their fraternity hats and t-shirts. As the year goes on, more and more spirit wear will keep appearing around campus.

Everywhere you turn, you can see blue on campus. UK is a school full of spirit and its students wear their spirit wear with pride. Blue and white athletic gear will never go out of style. Frank Lake is shown here in his ready for class look, proudly wearing a UK t-shirt and drawstring bag, perfect for his books. Taylor Edge is ready for a day at class or out for lunch in her campus attire. Her shorts and simple shirt are perfect for the hot weather, and her accessories will always be in style. UK is full of diversity and individual styles. But you can guarantee to always see these casual, ready to go outfits.
