Keeneland Fall Trends

As you walk into Keeneland, the first things you might notice are the horses, the jockeys, or which of your friends are there, but for some it’s all about the clothes. This is the place where you’ll find all of the latest fashionable trends.

For the ladies, there are several different routes that you can take when trying to decide what you should wear to this occasion. During the spring, most girls chose the all too well-know, Lily Pulitzer dress, but in the fall you will see many other options. Although you still might find a few people wearing dresses, the “in” thing to do now is to wear a skirt with a shirt or blouse and some type of heels or boot. The boot seems to be the more comfortable choice if you’re planning on walking back and forth between the betting window to the track.

Now, for the guys. They have a little bit of an easier choice when it comes to their outfits and they still might worry about it as much as the girls! But most of the time you’ll see them in khaki pants, a button-up shirt, a tie or bow-tie, and possibly a sport jacket depending on the forecast for that particular day.

Whatever you decide to wear, you’re guaranteed to have a great time at one of Kentucky’s greatest traditions!

Rent The Runway at UK

Everyone has those nice events, such as a special dinner, a wedding, or a dance where you need the perfect outfit.  Although the events are fun, they can be quite expensive.  A great way to avoid the high prices and still look fabulous is by ordering from the Rent the Runway.  The company Rent the Runway is based in New York City and has expanded throughout the United States through campus representatives at multiple universities, such as here at UK.  They offer affordable rentals for both men and women and are accommodating to all sizes.  They are also big on customer service because when a person places an order they send you another size for free.  If the customer is not satisfied with their order, they can send the clothing item back right away for a replacement.  Rent the Runway is always offering great discounts through e-mail and Facebook.  UK even has its own Rent the Runway fan page where special discounts are offered to only UK students.

If you are interested in ordering clothes, or you want to see firsthand what the company has to offer, Rent the Runway will be co-hosting an event with Delta Zeta on November 9th at 7pm in the Singletary Center.  During the intermission of Mr. UK, every President of each sorority will be partaking in a runway show modeling the current dresses available online.  As shown in the pictures above, there are outfits for several events in Lexington.  These clothes could be worn at events such as athletic games, tailgates, date parties, and Keeneland.  This company opens a lot of doors for students because they can rent designer clothes for cheaper prices.  Check out more about Rent the Runway at www.renttherunway.com.

UK Plaid Project

Everyone has probably noticed the newest trend in UK apparel: Plaid. Plaid merchandise comes in everything from totes, scarves, cozies, and aprons. Walk into a UK bookstore and you can help but notice the new plaid print table decked out in stunning blue, blue, and white plaid right as you walk in. Walking around campus you see sprinkles of UK plaid fashioned by students and faculty.

The “Plaid Project” began in the Merchandising, Apparel, and Textiles Department of the College of Human Environmental Sciences. This 2008 semester project was led by Rita Smart, advisory board professor chairperson and coordinator, and Dr. Scarlett Wesley, assistant professor. Students from the Problem Solving in Merchandising class were challenged to create a plaid pattern that would be voted upon to appear as the new design for UK merchandise. Of 35 plaid patterns, 4 finalists were chosen to be considered for the official UK plaid. Over 10,000 people voted on these four plaid designs (UK Plaid).

Students Christina Criollo and Jena Everhard created the official University of Kentucky plaid that won the plaid project votes. Their design is representing the 7 NCAA Men’s basketball national titles in the black and white strips (UK Plaid). The design proves to be a very clean cut, and fashionable and also unique as only 4 other schools sport a plaid print. Be sure to check out the plaid merchandise for yourself!

Homecoming Concert

On Thursday October 21st, the campus was eager to welcome two famous guests to perform a concert! The guest that were putting on the concert were Jason Derulo, and B.O.B. It was the concert everyone had been talking about since September, and it had finally come. It’s no fun to go and get a ticket by yourself, so it’s very usual for a huge group of people to get tickets and go to the concert together! The picture above shows a big group about ready to leave for the concert. The attire for the concert was lots of boots and jeans, as well as dresses with boots to begin the fall season. The guys at the concert were wearing jeans as well with either a nice button down plaid shirt, or a concert tee to add to the feel of being at a concert. It wasn’t a dressy concert, just a fun concert that let you enjoy the concert while looking comfortable yet fashionable!

The atmosphere of the concert was intense! Everyone was standing up in the upper levels, while the people on the floor were all gathered as close to the stage as possible. Jason Derulo as well as B.O.B. were very energetic performers who made staying to the very end of the concert worthwhile. The picture above shows Jason Derulo singing his song Ridin’ Solo (the non acoustic version), while doing one of his many dance numbers. His great dance moves really got the crowd pumped up to see what was going to come next! After talking to people after the concert and seeing what their favorite part was, or who they thought was the best performer, many people said they loved how Jason Derulo did Ridin’ Solo acoustic, but thought that B.O.B was the better performer that night. All in all, the concert was an overall success, and this is a great way for the University of Kentucky to keep up with the students interests by having big performers come and put on a concert. Hopefully, concerts like this continue throughout the years!

Keeneland Fall Trends

When you here the trumpets you know it is Keeneland time in the Bluegrass, which means it’s time to dress to impress and bet on the horses and sisters Mackenzie and Page where ready. Both girls sported very cute and classy mid-waisted skirts as predicted in the blog post Preview of Fall Keeneland Trends. These girls traded in there stilettos for low heal, wide calf boots to keep them a little warmer in the typical fall weather. Mackenzie chose to play up her black colored tee with gold chained necklaces which really gave her outfit the pop that brought it all together. Page played up her outfit by adding a cardigan embellished with gold beads that really helped pull your eye up from plaid skirt. When we told Mackenzie and Page that they where wearing some of the trends predicted for the fall meet they both shook their heads laughing “How typical of us,” it was obvious they really knew how to bring an outfit together, and dress to impress.

All three of these boys are definitely dressed to impress.  Nash and Harrison are rocking their sport coats with bow ties, while Tanner is dressed in the classic khaki and button up.  Over the last few years the bow tie has been popping in and out of formal events, and this year it has finally decided to stick around.  Walking around Keenland, I saw many college boys who chose to switch from neck tie to bow tie. While Nash and Harrison chose to go all out for Keenland, instead of a tie, Tanner added the backwards baseball cap to keep it casual.  Whether they are formal or casual the guys at Keenland are always looking good!

Husband and wife Terry and Jane where quite the eye catchers at the Keeneland fall meet. They weren't wearing your typical day out at the tracks wear, but they where rocking there outfits. Why so much pink? It was for breast cancer awareness month, and both Terry and Jane where both obviously proud to support it.
