Blustery Bluegrass: How Students are Dressing to Keep Warm this Fall!

As you all know Kentucky weather can fluctuate drastically, especially in these fall months. Within a week you can experience a perfectly sunny day straight out of August and the next you could be expecting snow. So what is the most effective yet fashionable way to dress this fall? We decided to take a look on campus and see what looks have been trending. First up we have noticed cardigans are the way to go this semester. They are a great alternative to a heavy winter jacket while still allowing a lot of versatility and personal style to show through. This will allow you to not overheat on sunny days but provide just enough weight to keep you warm while walking on campus.
Going along with our previous trend, we noticed plenty of students are layering up this fall. This means scarves paired with a lightweight fleece zip up under an insulated down jacket, not to mention finishing off the look with a pair of weather appropriate boots. Layering allows you to customize your outfit while you are on the go so that you are able to stay warm yet comfortable throughout the day. One of the key parts to this trend is picking lightweight items, such as a scarf or down jacket, which can be easily rolled up to fit in your backpack or purse while you are on the go. Predicting the weather in Kentucky is a tricky thing, for a safe bet on staying warm and stylish make sure to grab multiple layers before heading out the door this fall!

I live on campus and have to walk everywhere so weather plays a very important role in everyday life, and what you wear is even more important. A lot of my classes are early in the morning so when I walk into campus I have to dress for the cold before the sun has even come up. I am big on the trend of layering as mentioned in this article. I use things such as scarfs and gloves that can keep me warm but later be thrown into my bag when it starts to get warm outside. I also see a lot of people wearing leggings with cardigans that make for a really cute outfit but still keep you really warm.

Being from Canton, Ohio I am used to cold weather However, dressing for the cold is a lot different here. In Ohio we are not worried about fashion we are just worried about staying warm! I never go for the layered look because a nice thick jacket is much more comfortable in my eyes. I would rather be a little warm while walking to class then a little cold. I love the cardigan look but it defiantly does keep me as warm as I'd like to be. It is hard to look cute on cold days but being warm is much more important to me then being cute

I recently read an article about wearing your sweater as a jacket. So replacing jackets with cardigans is also on trend for men. Wearing sweaters gives you more versatility because they come on a variety of styles while jackets are more basic. Plus they're aren't too heavy. With it being cold in the morning and warm in them afternoon, it's best to have something that's a little lighter than a coat. The thing I love most about this time of year is how you can layer. Layering allows you to make a variety of fashion statements.

I walk to campus from downtown every day and totally agree with layering. I am not completely worried about the style part of it, but laying is a great way to stay cool/warm and comfortable. Most of the time when I get to campus I have to put something in my backpack, whether it be a scarf, lightweight jacket, beanie, etc.

The Kentucky weather is something that is nearly impossible to plan for. When I first came here one of the biggest things for me was learning how to layer my clothing. Walking from class to class at varying times of day you never know what type of weather you're going to experience. Because of my early morning classes I find that layering is the best way to go. It lets you change your outfits as quickly as the weather here changes.

Fall fashion trends are probably my favorite style of clothing. There's just something about all the layering of cardigans and jackets with boots, scarves, and hats that is so appealing to me. The color palette of neutrals and earth tones is also very nice and vintage-y, which I think is an on going trend this season. Not only is the look of this trend appealing, but like you've mentioned the versatility of this trend is a bonus as well, especially on a college campus where you're spending the majority of your time walking around. It's nice to be able to modify your look throughout the day by taking off or adding pieces of clothing.

I have quickly learned that dressing for high school and dressing for college are very different. In high school, even if it was cold, I didn't have to worry too much about it because I would be inside the majority of the day. Now that I'm in college I'm walking outside everywhere and must be prepared for this crazy Kentucky weather. Like the article said, I try to layer with lighter as well as heavier jackets with scarves. This way if it does happen to warm up a little I can just remove a layer, or if it stays cold I have enough layers to stay warm. I try to stay in style in the winter even though it's very hard to while staying warm.

I am used to the cold weather since I am from Chicago, however I am not used to the long walk I have to take to get to each of my classes. I am a big fan of layering because I get up pretty early for a lot of my classes and usually by the time I'm done for the day it is warm out. Kentucky weather is very unpredictable so its always hard to decide what to wear. However, I always make sure I have some sort of jacket and even an umbrella because you truly never know what to expect with Kentucky weather. I normally just wear leggings and a few layers on top so I can decide what to keep on and what to take off due to the weather!

I think that dressing for the cold weather can be really fun and cute! I love scarves and boots so this time of the year is always exciting. These past few weeks have been crazy with the weather so layers have been very important. You never know what to expect with Kentucky weather! I know a lot of students leave for class in the morning when it is still cold and come back when it is warmer so layers are great for that.

In my opinion students cannot prepare for Kentucky weather. This time last year, it was much colder and we were already pulling out our scarves and gloves. This year has really thrown me for a loop when getting ready in the mornings. What a lot of people have found is that if starting class early in the morning you must bundle up a little more but by the end of the day you begin to take off layer after layer because it has gotten so warm outside. I totally agree with the layering concept people are doing. As we all know when its warm outside, the classrooms are cold. And when its cold outside the classrooms are burning up. No matter what layering is a good idea for any time of the year.

Kentucky weather is so unpredictable! Layering this fall is definitely the way to go this fall because you can shed layers throughout the day. Its so frustrating when you walk outside and it is freezing then you get to the classroom and its 100 degrees! I've been trying to keep it simple but still fashionable. Leggings have been my best friend this fall because of their versatility. I've been holding off on the heavy outerwear as long as I can. I've also been really utilizing my blazers as a jacket. It makes me look polished and put together, but not get too hot or too cold.

Living on campus seems convenient, but walking all the way from south campus to the classrooms is a hassle when it's so cold! Dressing warm as definitely become a big part of my wardrobe lately. As said in the article, layering up is key. I always wear leggings, which are surprisingly really warm. Pairing them up with a NorthFace jacket and some boots always keeps me warm on the long walks to and from class. I'm already anticipating winter, when we'll need heavy coats, gloves and scarves, but for now, layering up a tee and jacket are pretty standard for staying warm on campus.

Being in college your outside a lot more. Walking to and from classes all day you are definitely more aware of the weather than in high school. I live off campus so I know for me it is really important to be prepared for the whole day when I leave because I can't easily go back and get a jacket if it gets colder or rains. I think the layering trend is definitely big because it keeps you prepared for whatever the weather is going to bring. There are also a ton of cute ways to wear that trend so you can be warm but still look cute!

This article hit the nail on the head. Layers are VERY important for walking to class. Besides the day to day changes in the weather, many students have classes all day which means that have to be prepared for cold in the morning and hot in the afternoon. Another trend that I've noticed is wearing a rain jacket over another sweatshirt or jacket on rainy days. It is hard to plan for so many different types of weather!

I really enjoyed this article because it is hard to dress, with these weird changing of temps. But i do love how cardigans are very popular this season, because that is mainly what my closet is made up of. Also i have become obsessed with wearing a scarf almost every single day. This article was helpful with ideas how to stay warm and still look good while walking around campus and going to class!

I am use to the weird weather. being from missouri, we have weather that changes all the time. actually right now, it is snowing in my home town and my family has already pulled out their winter clothes.I am use to this weather, so i am use to this weather already. in missouri, one day it would be sunny and 70, then the next day it would be cold and rainy, just like here. knowing what the weather it will be for the day, does affect what i wear.

The weather can definitely play a major role in how a person feels like dressing. It is extremely important when the weather is cold to have a cute and warm outfit or it can leave a person miserable as they walk to class. I think layering is a great way to still be stylish and weather apppropriate. Scarves are an essential piece for both fall and winter.

This article nailed it...layers are the way to go! You can always add or remove layers to fit with the current weather outside. It often goes from bright and sunny to freezing and raining within a few hours. I think that it's important to note that they also added a bit on layered accessories such as scarves! They always add something to the outfit and of course adds an fashion forward element!

I agree that Kentucky weather is so unpredictable. You look out your window in the morning and it is raining and cold, and then a few hours later on campus it is hot out. So due to this unpredictable weather, I agree that layers are the way to go. If you layer your clothing it is easier to take some items off or put some on throughout the day. Also I agree that cardagin sweaters are becoming a big trend this fall. I think these are a cute but casual as well.

I hate having to dress for the winter. I love to bundle up but I dont think it looks cute. I finally found some cute peacoats after years of looking for the perfect one so maybe that will make me enjoy dressing for the cold more. I hate being cold so I am more focused on being warm than looking cute.

I live only on campus so usually I am walking everywhere I need to go. Recently however, the weather has been fluctuating so much that I can never know what exactly to wear. This blog really helps to give a idea or two on what can go with both types of weather. Hopefully the weather will stop fluctuating so much and just stay a constant at one temperature and our clothing would be a lot easier to plan out.

One thing I learned about coming to school here is that you have to keep a wide range of clothing out year round. At first I was really annoyed with the weather being nice one minute then the next it being cloudy and cold. But now that I've been here for 3 years, it is second nature to me to check the weather before I get dressed. I really do not layer much because I know when I get into the classrooms they will be really warm. So wearing a my North Face jacket or sweater will keep me warm enough for the 5 to 10 minute walk back to my house off campus.

I am from Maryland and we have about the same weather as Kentucky. It's definitely the same as in waking up in the morning when its the coldest, and dressing for that weather and then by the end of the day you are sweating with your fleece, jacket gloves and scarfs on! The winter style is pretty much the same here as back home. Everyone is either wearing jeans, leggings or yoga pants with uggs or some other kind of boots, with a cardigan or fleece under your coat. Scarfs are also a huge trend in Maryland and are seeing them a lot here as well, these help you look stylish while still keeping you warm!

I've heard that this winter is going to be especially cold so I am preparing myself for a very cold one. I've noticed that once I walk into the classroom it's extremely hot after walking from class to class and the rooms have the heat really turned up. But once you go back outside it's freezing again so it's all about layering. I'll usually wear leggings or jeans with boots and a t shirt with a sweatshirt and maybe a coat on top if it's especially cold. I'll sometimes bring gloves with me if I plan on getting coffee in the mornings because my hands will freeze while holding it otherwise. It's sometimes hard to get motivated to look cute for class when you're going to be bundling up and just want to stay warm. I love leg warmers and pea coats for those days you want to dress up but still look cute. I love oversized sweaters too, they're probably one of my favorites in the winter.

The weather in Kentucky is so hard to predict! One day it can be warm and sunny and the next day you need a winter coat. I hate being cold on my walks to class and not knowing exactly what to wear so I usually layer my clothing. By wearing layers I can quickly change what I have on to match the current temperature. I am just ready for it to be one temperature and stop fluctuating back and forth between hot and cold.

Layering is key in order to deal with this crazy bipolar weather. One minute it's raining, to hot, to chilly winds all in one day. I'm personally a big fan of layering, especially with scarves and cardigans/light weight jackets. I'm just not looking forward to the snow since I haven't seen it in about 4 years now, so it's going to be interesting on how to look cute while trying to stay warm. But, layering is a big thing on campus right now and is effortlessly chic.

Everyday before I leave my dorm, I try to check what the weather is supposed to be for the day, but it can be wrong a lot. One day, it said there was no chance of rain, and when I got out of class, it was raining! Now I always try to layer accordingly, so I will be prepared whether it warms up or cools down throughout the day. I'm from Chicago, so I'm used to the cold, but usually at home, if it starts out cold, it stays cold. Also, I've only been used to walking from my car to school, so I've never had to experience walking from classes to my dorm. I love the idea of layering, as I can be bundled up in the morning, and take off a layer to be comfortable in the evening!

Living on campus, I have learned that when the weather starts to get cold, I have to start layering to stay warm. Scarves are one of my favorite accessories for the winter. I probably own around 20, if not more. I definitely agree that layering scarves, cardigans, and down coats are the way to go. I own a hunter green down vest from J.Crew, and it is probably my favorite item that I own. Vests are so versatile, and they keep you warm!

As a native Kentuckian I am use to our rather drastic fluctuations in weather. However, being in college I've found I've never been outside in cold weather as I have walking around campus. As a sophomore I have a year of experience of what to do and what not to do. In the past I tried to predict weather and ended up looking ridiculous quite often when the outdoors took an unexpected turn. However, this year I've picked up on the trend mentioned in this post of layering and carrying around the excess if changes in temperature occur. I am really looking forward to seeing others in the cute outfits keeping bundled this year.

i love warm weather but i have to say that this cooler weather is my absolute favorite fashion-wise. being a fan of the layered look, i am glad for an excuse to wear cute cardigans, knit hats and scarves. i think cold weather is a time where you can really highlight your own sense of style because no one is going to layer the exact same way. you can also layer so many different ways and no everything has to match perfectly, which is great for us lazy college students that don't do laundry!

I have to agree with everything in this post! Even though I don't do a lot of walking around campus, I do have to wait by the road to catch the bus. And it does get really cold out there with all those cars rushing by during 5o'clock traffic. If I were to dress only for that though, I burn burn up in the classrooms. So layering is the only way to go. I always have a jacket and scarf handy if I need to get a bit warmer, or can just toss those items in my bag if I get a bit too hot.

It is very hard to dress warm and stay cute at the same time. I live on campus and walk everywhere so I have to stay warm. My closet is full of leggings, gloves, tights, and scarves that I wear everyday. The weather in Lexington is also very indecisive so I try to dress in layers if it gets hot so I can take them off.

You never know what Kentucky weather will bring! It changes daily, so it makes it really hard to plan what to wear sometimes! For example in the morning it is always really cold so I have dressed really warm before then have gotten hot un afternoon! Layering is a big trend and the best way to go! I really think layering is very trendy and perfect for this Kentucky weather because the temperature changes so much!

The weather here is always so unpredictable so i check the weather every morning. Most days it starts out kinda chilly in then morning and then warms up so having layers on is the best way to deal with the weather, especially when living on campus and walking to class. I really love fall and winter so having lots sweaters and cardigans come in handy. Cardigans are great to pair with leggings and teh tall boots that are really popular right now. Another great thing for the winter season is your north face jackets and ugg boots.
