UK Football Trends

College football teams have recently started a race not only to win on the field, but to look the best on it as well.  Oregon, with the backing of Nike, is setting the pace for the rest of the nation as players never wear the same uniform combination twice during their entire careers.  The Kentucky football team has maintained a fairly steady color combination on the gridiron, while making a few minor tweaks along the way, such as the white stripes down the sides of the team’s jersey.  Morgan Newton,  eying down an open receiver, showcases the latest edition of the football ‘Cats helmets, which have evolved from white to blue, and have featured  various school logos over the years, currently emblazed with the interlocked “UK.”

Big Blue Nation is among some of the most boisterous fans in the country.   As the heroes on the hardwood, as well as the gridiron, have come and gone, so have the different styles of apparel donned by the loudest fan base in the country.  The thunderous crowd, as shown in the image below, ignites the players on the field during tough situations.  Clad in all blue and white, the war paint, and miniature jerseys worn by toddlers, are among the endless array of Wildcats’ merchandise that can be sported on a Saturday night at Commonwealth Stadium, in Lexington.  Showing your support for your favorite Wildcat is a tradition cherished by all those that bleed blue.

There is also a big trend, especially for the warmer weather, of girls wearing cute sundresses in blue and white to the games. Victoria's Secret PINK line has created so many cute, form-ftting t-shirts, dresses, shorts, and tanks made for the University of Kentucky. I like dressing up sometimes, instead of wearing the usual jeans and a t-shirt. You can be cute and casual at the same time.

Not only do the football players uniforms look great, the girls who get all dressed up in blue dresses and skirts it such a pretty tradition! The way the fans look during the game make the atmosphere aton better! Looking around at a game, the UK royal blue is a great match for everyone!

I like how you added in not only how the fans dress, but also how the uniforms have evolved. I too, enjoy looking out for Oregon's new uniforms every game. Another big part of UK's fan-base also likes to dress up and go for the more preppy style. I have seen a number of girls in dresses and skirts, along with guys in button-downs and ties. This style, along with the jerseys and UK t-shirts, creates a unique balance to UK's game attendance.

Growing up here in lexington, I always saw a sea of blue outside of the stadium and campus, everywhere you looked on game days there was always blue all over, but when I became a student at UK, I went into shock, because the sea of blue I always saw outside of campus had grown by the hundreds, I really shouldn't be surprised though because it is a BIG BLUE NATION!

I love the blue helmets that the UK football team is wearing. I think they are so pretty and proffesional looking. As for fans, I love that some people go all out by painting themselves from head to toe in blue and white. There is so much Kentucky gear that you can buy for games, it's awesome!

I love looking for Kentucky blue in every store I go into. You can never have too much kentucky blue in your wardrobe. I know I have numerous UK t-shirts and UK blue attire. I think it is interesting that Oregon's team never wears the same uniform combination twice!

This was a cool article because it was something that i never noticed before. I never noticed that the uniforms change year after year and keep evolving for every generation in football. I guess thats what keeps the team looking updated and obviously they can afford to do this because football is by far the most popular sport here at UK besides basketball. I love the picture of the fans, it really show the royal blue in the crowd and shows the support that our fans are willing to give.

I like going to football games to see the variety of different UK shirts. I think it's cool to go to a school where the merchandise is so diverse. I like the current UK jerseys, but agree that changes to the uniform are nice. I love our awesome fans and the choice of game day gear is excellent.

The football players look great in their awesome jerseys and bright blue helmets. I'm so happy our school color is mainly blue. It's so vibrant and just looks good. I love going to the games and seeing all the different UK apparel. I myself rep a Randall Cobb jersey along with many other people. It's fun to see how everybody represents their own school spirit

I agree that there isn't many fans out there as supportive as UK's. But I thought there should of been something mentioned about the attire of girls. Especially during the warmer weather, you will see girls in a variety of cute blue dresses. Guy from frats are also dressed up to attend the game. The usual fan are decked out in blue and white.

I love going to UK sporting events and being part of Big Blue Nation! I am a huge UK fan and love wearing my blue and white :) I like how our football team has stayed true to who they are and not changed uniforms, actually. But, the subtle changes provide a new and fresh look.

GO BIG BLUE.

I personally love tailgating because it's so much fun to put together outfits that are a little more sophisticated than your everday tshirt and jeans. I love to wear blue sundresses in the summer, or a royal blue cardigan with a white scarf in the winter. It's cute when the guys dress up too.

Unknown said...

I love to wear a UK shirt with a cute scarf and cardigan to games and class all the time. I also really love UK's blue uniforms they are really classic. I think we have the best school colors. We also have the best fans, its crazy what some people will do for the team.

I love the Kentucky football uniforms, they stand out against any opponet they face. Not only are the uniforms amazing on the field but off the field as well. The fans at UK dress up in crazy outfits to support the football team. The outfits include crazy hats, war paint, and funny sayings on t-shirts.

The new uniforms look very nice. I love game days; everyone shows their spirit in a UK jersey, t-shirt, or cute dresses for girls. I think we have the best school spirit compared to other colleges. Some of our students are crazy and go above and beyond dressing up on game days. Blue and white are by far the best looking colors around!

The pictures for this blog are beautiful! That add a very nice touch. The writing is also very catchy and true which made it enjoyable for me to read. I did not know the information about the uniforms, so I found that to be very interesting because probably not too many people know about that.

Maggie Peddicord said...

I agree; I think our uniforms are very sleek, authentic, and visually appealing! But when it comes to spirit wear, I don't think there are many UK fans concerned about fashion dos and don'ts. I have seen a wide array of outfits worn to the games, ranging anywhere from decorative boxers to Victoria's Secret's Pink uniform jerseys, to some so extreme, they would more aptly be catergorized as costumes. Nevertheless, I think the variety of spirit wear undoubtedly contributes to the excitement and enthusiasm of supporting our cats!

I love the fact that the football uniforms are switched up every so often. It gives fans something else to look for when watching there favorite team. The Wildcat football uniform right now is perfection to me, all blue with hints of white. Go Big Blue!

I also liked that this article talked about the football team's uniforms and how they're changing a little each year.

Not only do the uniforms look great but the way the fans get dressed up with dress shirts, ties, skirts are great too. My mom is coming to tailgate for my sorority tailgate this weekend and was confused that we all get so dressed up for games but I think it looks great and it still shows great school spirit. Of course we still see UK apparel everywhere. UK spirit doesn't fall short here. It's great.

You know our school is special when this particular shade of royal blue is referred to as "Kentucky Blue." The uniforms on the field are so eye catching under the stadium lights, and it's great to have a partnership with such a high profile brand. I love seeing what people decide to wear to the games, from dresses, dress shirts, embroidered khakis, to game day tee's, UK football is definitely a special experience.

Great blog!!! I liked the part about the football team's uniforms. Blue and white are prodominent colors for clothing in the bluegrass. I like being able to wear a UK shirt to either class to be casual or to work on a game day.

No matter what game I attend, I never fail to see people painted blue or white! It seems a popular way, especially for guys, to demonstrate their Wildcat spirit! On game days, however, I usually resort to wearing a UK t-shirt or a simple blue sundress. As for the uniforms of the football players go, they always look uniformed and composed.

I never really have noticed a difference in the player's jerseys. That is an interesting point the article talked about. Personally, I like the all blue look on the field. And one of my favorite things to do during tailgating season is look at all the cute blue and white dresses the college age girls have on! I have so many blue dresses in my closet that I have acquired over the years.

UK students also support their school by wearing blue on Fridays. These outfits range from jerseys to dresses, much like the article mentioned, like one would see on game day. No matter what style they’re wearing, UK students’ main goal on game day is to support their school through their apparel.

This was a good post as far as what the teams and crazy fans wear, but i wish we could have heard a little more about like cute uk outfits maybe during tailgating or something. I love going to football games and seeing the enitre crowd wearing blue. Our fans support our wildcats so much by painting their bodies, and wearing every article of blue clothing. I try to wear blue every time, too. As for the football colors on the uniforms, I really like the solid blue helmet with a simple UK. Maybe they could put a wildcat somewhere on their helmets or jerseys. -paige krall

In my hometown going out to the games and supporting our football and basketball players in our school is not a common for my high school. My football teams record was 11-0 for two years. So going to the game was not memeorble I would already know what the outcome would be before the game started. But at UK everyone comes out in the blue and white and supports there team. Even spend days outside just to get tickets to a game.

Rohan Johnson said...

UK Football is usually exciting. Tailgaiting, cheering on the team and all is always fun. Even when the team isn't doing as well I still look forward to going to the games and wearing my blue and white to support the cats.

UK football season is the most exciting time of the year. You can always count on seeing a sea of blue when you walk into Commonwealth Stadium. It always fun to see what new outfits people come up with to wear to the games each year.

I like that this post highlighted what the actual UK football players wear as well as the fanbase. Being able to go to the games in comfortable Kentucky t-shirts or a nice blue cotton dress is fun for girls who like to switch up their styles. It does suck when it gets colder and you have to wear many layers at the stadium. Especially the last game of the season (Tennessee) and we are losing in the freezing cold :(

Though I have never been to a UK game, I can say I have seen many of these trends. It's interesting to hear how the jersey has changed throughout the years, in keeping with the times. UK definitely seems to have some of the loudest fans around, as displayed by the fans clad in all blue!

I think that the trends at football games are of a very wide variety. It is hard to say what exactly will be the most popular trend but of course no matter if a person is wearing a skirt, a shirt & shorts, a jersey, or dress..it will most likely be blue and/or white. The trends at UK football games definitely reflect a great deal of pride for our school and I think that is great!

I think that the best way to describe UK is probably is all about its sports. The students really do care and the atmosphere is very competitive around campus. Anywhere you go and you start the c-a-t-s chant it will be echoed. Its an outstanding place to be on game day so many fans come to support every sport whether its football, basketball, or even the hockey team.

School spirit here on campus lasts all year round, even when the major sports teams arent in season. From the new uniforms, to the ever changing t-shirts for sale, UK always has up to date looks to support our school. If you go to a UK football or basketball game, there is no doubt you will see a handful of different shirts supporting our team all probably purchased or made in the last few weeks.

UK is a very spirited school, everyday on campus you are guarenteed to see someone wearing some sort of UK gear. On game days, it's really interesting to see all the different looks that girls wear. While some sport UK blue dresses other wear skirts. The guys also get into the game day spirit by wearing jerseys or Uk t-shirts, some even dress up in blue attire.

It's so fun to see how our personal styles emulate our school spirit. You see everything from simple t-shirts, dresses, no clothing at all, and an entire blue ensemble. No wonder you can always, 'see blue.'

Wow! its so shocking to see a school with this much school spirit! Its so crazy saturdays when you're driving pretty much enywhere how many people are out tailgating and how much traffic there is! The "sea of blue" really is what is claims to be!

Kirsten Moss said...

This blog is a very but I felt as though it is lacking some information about the trends because it gets so consumed with the fan base. Then again the fans are what help make everything trending because there is a 'monkey see monkey wear' affect. So, whatever the team is wearing others will want to buy.

Our football players definitely look amazzzzing in the UK blue uniforms. But my favorite part about Football Fashion is the way the boys and girls dress up. I love the classy tradition of nice dresses and pearls with ties and khakis. I think it helps the image of UK college students as well. I love Football seasonnnn & tradition! :)

I really like the UK uniforms, they are very classy! UK fashion; however, is not only seen at the football games but on a daily basis! UK fans truly show their spirit through their attire.
