Beaux Arts Fall Ball Recap

Body paint, glitter, and glow-sticks all were in abundance at Lexington’s Beaux Arts Fall Ball.  The event fell on October 30th this year, the Saturday night before Halloween at Buster’s Billiards and Backroom.  People came out for a night of dancing, DJ’s, food, drinks, and to show off their unique and flashy costume ideas.  The event was packed with people having a fabulous time while enjoying the music and the lights. The venue was decorated for the event in exciting colors and a Halloween theme. There was an impressive dancing robot on a platform that everyone seemed to enjoy.
The costumes that you could find at the Fall Ball ranged from “neon Indians” to huge giraffes.  Everyone seemed to have so much fun choosing what they were going to wear.  Most of the costumes were homemade instead of purchased.  This made the diversity and assortment so much more exciting than your average Halloween party.  People went all out with their costume ideas using extensive body paint, special effects make up, and even facing the cold weather in minimal clothing just to pull off their vision.  Here are a few attendees that were hanging out outside of the ball.  You can see a few Native American costumes and a skeleton, of course all adorned with glow-sticks.  There were so many costumes to see; the Beaux Arts Ball was truly was an unforgettable masquerade ball to attend!

My roommate from last year and her friends went to Beaux Arts last year and they were all dressed crazy like this. They were all showing a lot of skin, i feel like more then you would see with regular costumes. I thought it would be really cool to experience Beaux Arts, but i also heard that you had to be 21 and that it was pretty pricey.

This sounds liek so much fun! I just went to a date party for my sorority Saturday, but had that not been going on I probably would have gone there because it seems like so much fun with all the lights, music and dancing! It would have been awesome to see all the different costumes as well, and people adding a different spin on them and making themselves a "neon indians."

Although I have never been to Beaux Art ball I have always thought it was a unique thing about Lexington. It is definitely an artistic atmosphere and party event of the semester. I was surprised because I hadn't heard anyone talking about it and then I saw the blog post and didn't realize it already occurred. In the past I feel like I always knew when the event was coming and heard people talking a lot about it. That was not the case this year. But from the post, it looks like it was once again a great success.

I hadn't heard of this going on, but it sounds like it was a lot of fun! I think the reason why most of the costumes were handmade was because most of the people attending the ball were college students, which don't have a lot of money. I know I personally made my costume as well and also participating in using body paint to pull off my costume! Also, i would agree with that cold weather is never an issue for Halloween, because people are going to still where their costume no matter what.

I have never been to the Beaux Arts Ball but a ton of my friends have been and they say it is so much fun. I like how outrageous the costumes are and that most of them are homemade. It really sets this event apart from many other events around Halloween. It looks like it went really well and hopefully I will be able to attend next year's!

I have never attended this type of event, but I have heard a lot about it. I took an interior design class last semester and our teacher spent an entire lecture talking about this ball. He said nothing but great things about it and how much fun it is to attend. The costumes look very interesting and the pictures posted portray that everyone attending was really enjoying themselves and having a really great time.

Some of my friends make this a "never miss" event for the last 2 years and after hearing their stores, seeing their inventive costumes, and even the pictures above; definitely makes this a "never miss" event when I can actually go. I love the creativity that comes out when people make their costumes on their own!! I can't wait to goo!

I had no clue this was even an event over Halloween weekend! It sounds like it would have been something really fun to go to and get dressed up for. I was a hippie for Halloween and definitely would have fit in with the native american costumes. Great job capturing these photos!

I've been to every Beaux Art ball since my freshman year at UK. The costumes the people dress in are definitely more over the top than your typical Halloween party. Some people even choose not to wear a costume and go the body paint route instead. Beaux's is something everyone should at least experience once in their time in Lexington because of the extremely unique atmosphere and fashion choices. Anything goes at Beaux's.

The Beaux Art Ball looks extremely interesting and fun. I love the looks of the pictures. It seems like a fun event and atmosphere. Their costumes are great. Ive never heard of anything like it coming from a small town. I love art, and especially a more kind of expressive atmosphere. It just put you in the mood to create. The fashion on halloween is always interesting.

I had never heard of this ball, which suprises me being that it is a seeemingly elaborate event centered around the typical party holiday for college students. Although the neon/psychedelic color spectrums and relative decorations have been a common party theme trend, I think the 'dancing robot' added a unique techno twist. It also reflects the artistic aspect/background of the party's host, especially if the robot's movement was in conjunction with the flashing lights and music. Based on your photos and description, this sounds like an event I will surely plan on attending next year!

This event looks like a lot of fun! I have actually never heard of it and that surprises me as well seeing that it is such a big event. I think creating your own costumes makes Halloween so much more fun. It not only guarantees that your costume is one of a kind and no one else will have it, but they're a lot of fun to make.

Some girls in my sorority went to the spring ball that was last semester and dressed crazy! They went with a couple guys who just wore something on the bottom and painted the rest of their body with all different colors and patterns. If you've ever been out in Lexington when Beaux Arts is going on it's a lot of fun to look at the crazy costumes people come up with! The girls that went dressed up as peppermints and had a lot of fun making their costumes together! I didn't know that they had a fall ball around Halloween though. That seems like it would be a good party to attend for the holiday!

I find it very exciting and encouraging seeing people expressing themselves through their style by dressing in unique ways. Halloween is the perfect time to do this! You have the opportunity to dress however you want without judgment. I think this can be seen at the Beaux Ball through the homemade costumes as people cared more about having fun and expressing creativity than looking absolutely perfect.
