Mr. UK Pageant

Delta Zeta hosted the 12th annual Mr. UK Pageant where guys from all over campus meet to compete for the title of Mr. UK. The contestants participated in swimwear, formal wear, talent and a question and answer round. The contestants wore silly outfits for the talent and swimwear portion. These outfits ranged from Speedo’s, to scuba diving gear, to the infamous Borat swimsuit. As the competition progressed, the contestants wore tuxedos donated by Geno’s Formal Affair. Geno’s is a company that sells or rent out formal attire for special occasions. In the end, only one guy can take the crown. The winner was David Hutter, a wind ensemble and orchestra member at UK. He was nominated by Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

During the intermission of the pageant, Rent the Runway hosted a fashion show showcasing the line of dresses offered by the company. Presidents of each sorority had the opportunity to model designer dresses. These range from Nicole Miller, to Halston Heritage, to Leila Rose. The retail price of the dresses range from $300 to over $1,000, but they can be rented starting at $50. Anyone interested in renting a dress can sign up at RentTheRunway.com and get $15 off any order until November 15, 2010 using the promo code KENTUCKY15.

This event provided a perfect way for businesses such as Rent the Runway and Geno's to advertise to their market. The businesses had a contained and entertained audience of one of their target markets. Having a fashion show during intermission also allowed for the event to appeal to women’s and men’s fashion.

I didn't know that Rent the Runway took part in this event. Not only is this a fundraiser but it will get people interested in renting clothes that they'll only wear once rather than buying an expensive item.

This event definitely was a great way to advertise Rent the Runway as well as Geno's! It allows college students to see that they can find a cute dress for any occasion at a good price! I think this a wonderful idea and allows students to have some fun with it. I'm sure it was a lot of fun to watch the boys competing for Mr.UK!

I thought this event was much like high school and it brought old memories back. It's such a fun and careless event, and that's what makes it so entertaining! I would have LOVED to of been one of the models for the fashion show, but I'm not a president for a soroity, yet. Haha.

I think it definitely would have been fun to go to the Mr. UK pageant. I saw flyers everywhere but never got around it. It would have been really fun and entertaining to watch. And i like how the girls had a little fashion show for rent the runway. Kind of to get the word out there but have fun and show of the beautiful dresses at the same time.

This post looks interesting. I think the Mr. Uk Pageant is a great idea, it would have been really fun to attend. Rent the Runway was a great way to to tie in fashion in between the contest as well. It allowed them to show off their merchandise, and I'm sure it will be good publicity for that business.

The Mr. UK pageant was awesome! My sisters did an excellent job of putting together the show! The constants were amazing and worked so hard to make the show great! The Winner, David, balanced a lawn mower on his chain; amazing. SO much effort was put into this and it showed! Also the Rent the Runway show was the first annual show and it ran surprisingly smoothly! Hopefully we can make it even better next year!

This event is an example of a perfect way for retailers, like Rent the Runway and Geno's, to advertise to their target market. This event sounds like so much fun I wish I would have gone. Also the idea of being able to rent a dress is amazing I think this will be a major hit. I definitely can't afford an $1,000 dress, but if I can rent one for a special occasion I definitely will!

This event looks like alot of fun and a perfect way for retailers to advertise! I think Rent the Runway is perfect for college student that have so many events to go to and not alot of money to spend on their formal wear. I will defintly keep them in mind for anything I may need!

I attended this event last year and found it to be pretty entertaining. It looks like this year included some more promotion/advertising with Rent the Runway and the Geno's Formal Attire. I think both companies will probably benefit from the exposure they received from the event. Had I been in the Pageant, I would have thrown on a tuxedo from the early 1900's with the extended tail on the jacket. Much like the one Dicaprio wore in Titanic.

This pageant is a great opportunity for places such as Geno's and Rent the runway to show off their items. It not only made this pageant a fun event but also gave the audience members a look into the different types of formal wear that these two retailers offer. Although I didn't attend Mr. Uk I heard that it was a lot of fun, which makes me want to attend next year!

I was completely unaware that we even had a Mr. UK competition. This is so odd. I like that the competition was used to highlight a company we have discussed in class, "rent the runway." It's nice to know they'll show some support for our school by offering the discount, and the dresses for the sorority presidents.

The ladies runway in the middle of the guy's pageant was such a clever idea. Such a great way to advertise companies and to raise money for a good cause.

I'm sure the Mr. UK pageant was a great event. It seems like a good event that brings UK together by having contestants from a variety of different organizations. It was nice of Geno's and Rent the Runway to donate clothing to the event and is a great way for them to advertise to UK students.

It was nice for Rent the Runway to donate dresses, that's a great way to advertise their name to the UK campus! I know I'll be checking out their website next time I need a dres!!

I have never been to the Mr. UK pageant, but I am sure that it would be quite entertaining. I think that I would really enjoy going to that. Also the rent the runway fashion show in the intermission sounds really awesome. It is such a good idea to show off dresses that you can rent so you don't have to pay such steep prices for high end fashion that you would probably only wear once anyways!

I have not used Rent The Runway yet, but I cant wait!

I never knew there was a Mr.UK pageant here on campus. It seems like it was fun and by Geno's loaning the boys tuxedos for the night it was a great way to get their name out there. I also never knew that you can rent a dress for an event. That is something great for college students on a budget. I will have to look into that for future occasions.

This type of event is a great way to get students involved, have fun but also advertise their business. We had this same type of event in high school and it was hilarious! It really is a good way to show off what a business has while keeping everyone interested by having the 'pageant'

What a perfect opportunity to promote Rent the Runway. The pageant seems like a really fun event and then to add the runway show I'm sure it was a huge success. Good Idea! I can't wait until I can rent a dress from Rent the Runway, I think the concept is great especially when an individual is only planning on wearing the dress once.

I was supposed to go to the Mr. UK pageant but couldn't because of studying for a test, but it looks like it would be fun to sit and watch guys compete to be Mr. UK, and dress up in different outfits for different rounds. I'm sure they had fun doing it. I know the president of my sorority, Pi Beta Phi, was in the fashion show, and just from the picture above, all those dresses are very cute, and fashionable. This really shows me that the clothes from rent the runway are actually really cute and stylish, and are definitly worth it.

I love that this event was a pageant that raised money! What a great idea! I also think it was a fantastic way for Rent The Runway and Geno's Formal Attire to promote their businesses while providing clothing for the participants so that they didn't have to go out and buy these expensive/nice clothes for this event. Unfortunately I was not able to attend the pageant, but hopefully I will be able to next year!
